The best way to view a home in person.
Ways to View a Home
Once you have found a listing that interests you, either through the MLS listings that your Realtor sends you or by some other means, the listing will contain some basic property information and pictures. It is best to contact your Realtor right away letting her/him know you are interested in a property. Your Realtor knows or can find out more detailed information for you – like if there is an Open House scheduled, how many days the property has been on the market and what the previous purchase price was.
If you wish to view the property in person, a private showing (also known as a viewing) can be arranged where you tour the property with your Realtor. Some properties have times that are not available for viewing as per the seller’s instructions. Appointments are typically booked for ½ hour periods although the actual time spent in the property may be more or less. Most properties, unless vacant, request notice prior to showing.
Things to be aware of when you go on showings…
~ Be sure to arrive on time and if you need to view after work hours be sure to eat ahead of time.
~ Try to avoid bringing smaller children if possible.
~ Remember to wear socks and loafers or shoes that are easy to slip on and off.
~ Leave the house as you find it.
~ Be prepared to make notes of features you like or dislike about the property.
Often, a home for sale will have a public open house so people can come view during a select time period.
Open houses are a great way to view more homes. The seller’s Realtor will be present – be sure to advise her/him that you are working with a Realtor.
If you are interested in the property, be sure to let your Realtor know so that she/he can get more information on the property and follow up your visit with a private showing.
